8 TYPES OF SENIOR LIVING AND CARE CCRC Continuing Care Retirement Community. Combine independent living, assisted living and nursing in a single setting. Normally requiring an entry fee, offering a living unit, meals, and health care, up to the nursing level. ASSISTED LIVING Assisted living communities provide individualized health and personal care assistance in a homelike setting with an emphasis on personal dignity, autonomy, independence and privacy. Communities can be large apartment-like settings or private residences. Services include meals, bathing, dressing, toileting and administering or supervising medication. RESIDENTIAL CARE HOMES Usually single family homes licensed to provide assistance with medications, bathing and dressing. MEMORY CARE Communities offering specialized programs for residents suffering from Alzheimer's disease or other forms of memory loss. These programs can be offered by residential, assisted living, nursing centers and more. NURSING/REHAB The Nursing Facility program provides institutional care to Medicaid recipients whose medical condition regularly requires the skills of licensed nurses. The nursing facility must provide for the total medical, social and psychological needs of each client, including room and board, social services, over-the-counter drugs, medical supplies and equipment, and personal needs items. HOME CARE Includes providers of licensed health care services in the home and companies that provide non-medical assistance with such tasks as bathing, dressing, meal preparation and transportation. HOSPICE A program of palliative care consisting of medical, social and support services provided to persons with a terminal illness and a physician's prognosis of six months or less to live. DAY CARE Licensed Day Activity and Health Services facilities provide daytime services, up to 10 hours per day, Monday through Friday, to individuals residing in the community. INDEPENDENT LIVING Communities with amenities such as meals, transpor tation and activities usually included in a monthly fee. PRODUCTS AND SERVICES Financial, health-related and other valuable products and services designed to meet the varying needs of mature adults. PERSONAL ASSISTANCE SERVICES This program contracts with licensed agencies to provide persons recovering from an illness or injury, or persons who are elderly, disabled and/or chronically ill. Home Health Agencies provide "skilled services" such as nursing, social services, and therapeutic treatments (physical, speech, occupational therapy). SITTER SERVICE Services of sitters, aides or private duty nurses or therapists in the home, hospital or residential center. May include personal care assistance. AFFORDABLE SENIOR HOUSING HUD 202 Program that offers rental assistance for seniors who meet the requirements of the federal program.
