TYPES OF SENIOR LIVING AND CARE APARTMENTS AFFORDABLE SENIOR HOUSING Independent living units with age requirements. Meal service, activity programs and services usually aren't included in the monthly rent. HUD 202 Program that offers rental assistance for seniors who meet the requirements of the federal program. RETIREMENT Independent living with amenities such as meals, transportation and activities usually included in a monthly fee. ASSISTED LIVING A combination of housing, personalized supportive services and health care, designed to meet the needs of those needing help with the activities of daily living. RESIDENTIAL CARE RCF/RCFI, RCF*/RCFII - Facility which provides 24-hour care or accommodation, board and care to 3 or more residents. Also may provide assistance with medications, bathing and dressing, etc. Residents are required to make a path to safety unassisted. A licensed Nursing Home Adminstrator is required for RCF*/RCFII. MEMORY CARE Communities and centers offering specialized programs for people with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of memory loss. NURSING CARE Communities and/or Centers specifically licensed to provide health care and services involved in managing complex and potentially serious medical problems. ACUTE REHABILITATION A team of health care professionals working together to help people regain function or skills lost due to injury or disability. HOSPITALS REHABILITATION CENTERS HOME CARE HOME CARE/ ALZHEIMER'S WAIVER An institution where the sick or injured are given medical or surgical care. Facilities approved to provide inpatient Rehabilitation Services (physical, occupational, speech, respiratory, etc.). Usually a short to intermediate stay, following hospitalization. Includes providers of licensed health care services in the home and companies that provide non-medical assistance with such tasks as bathing, dressing, meal prep. and transportation. Home Health Care companies with a state license (waiver) to provide Alzheimer's care in your home. HOMEMAKER SERVICES Homemaker Services (HS) are generally household tasks provided for the participant as an alternative to nursing facility care. DAY CARE Various programs provide a range of geriatric day services, including social, nutrition, nursing, and rehabilitation. RESPITE Respite Care provides family members a time of relief from the constant everyday care of an elderly person. Short-term stays, normally in a nursing or assisted living facility. HOSPICE Hospice care may be provided in the home or a senior care community. Services can include pain management and a variety of emotional, spiritual and physical support issues. CARE MANAGEMENT ELDER LAW & FINANCIAL Offer services addressing a wide range of senior issues, such as selecting a senior residence, choosing in-home care providers, and various financial options. Typically care managers evaluate a senior's situation with regard to health needs, housing choices and financial needs and then provide a recommended care plan. A specialized area of legal practice, covering estate planning, wills, trusts, arrangements for care, social security and retirement benefits, protection against elder abuse (physical, emotional and financial), and other involving older people. 13
