9 TYPES OF SENIOR LIVING AND CARE CCRC Continuing Care Retirement Community. Combine independent living, assisted living and nursing in a single setting. Normally requiring an entry fee, offering a living unit, meals, and health care, up to the nursing level. INDEPENDENT LIVING Independent living with amenities such as meals, transpor tation and activities usually included in a monthly fee. AFFORDABLE SENIOR HOUSING HUD 202 Program that offers rental assistance for seniors who meet the requirements of the federal program. ASSISTED LIVING Facility or home furnishing food and shelter, personal care services; and assistance with or supervision of the administration of medication. Personal care services include assistance with feeding, dressing, moving, bathing, and more. Most licensed Type A, B or C. BEHAVIORAL HEALTH A range of geriatric mental health services or psychiatric health services on an in-patient and out-patient basis. CARE HOMES Assisted Living services provided in a residential home. MEMORY CARE Communities offering specialized programs for residents suffering from Alzheimer's disease or other forms of memory loss. These programs can be offered by Residential, Assisted Living or Nursing centers. NURSING/REHAB A facility that provides organized and structured care and service, and is subject to licensure under Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapter 242. The nursing facility may also be certified to participate in the Medicaid program. SHORT-TERM REHAB A program that helps patients achieve maximum functional capacity in order to return to their normal active life in the shortest time possible. Patients receive physical, occupational and speech therapy from skilled therapists while staying in an area dedicated to short-term patients. HOME CARE Home Health Agencies provide a wide range of health and social services delivered at home to persons recovering from an illness or injury, or persons who are elderly, disabled and/or chronically ill. Home Health Agencies provide "skilled services" such as nursing, social services, and therapeutic treatments (physical, speech, occupational therapy). DAY CARE Licensed Day Activity and Health Services facilities provide daytime services, up to 10 hours per day, Monday through Friday, to individuals residing in the community. HOSPICE A program of palliative care consisting of medical, social and support services provided to persons with a terminal illness and a physician's prognosis of six months or less to live. SITTER SERVICE Services of sitters, aides or private duty nurses or therapists in the home, hospital or residential center. May include personal care assistance, grooming, medication supervision, light housekeeping, transportation, nursing care or therapy. PRODUCTS & SERVICES Financial, health-related and other products and services designed to meet the varying needs of mature adults. PERSONAL ASSISTANCE SERVICES This program contracts with licensed agencies to provide personal assistance services to the mentally competent clients with physical disabilities who are willing to supervise their attendant or have someone who can supervise the attendant.
