STEPS FOR CHOOSING A SENIOR COMMUNITY OR CARE OPTION 1 STEP EVALUATE NEEDS – Various types of senior living and care are described on page 7. Evaluate your needs against the full continuum of care. DESIRES – Where do you want to live? You may choose to move to a community. Do you want to be near your current home, family or in a warm climate? Do you want a large campus-style community, or a residential care home? Do you prefer a community operated by a particular religion? There are great home health options as well. RESOURCES – Determine how much income and other resources, can be devoted to senior housing or care. When visiting or discussing, find out what portion of the cost can be covered by Medicare or other sources. For more information, see phone numbers listed on page 31. Costs for independent and assisted living are usually the responsibility of the individual. An attorney or financial planner can help in this process. 2 STEP MATCH Select the section of New LifeStyles containing the appropriate type of community or care option. Read the descriptions and check the map on pages 10-11 for location. Talk at length with the communities or agencies that match your criteria.
